My fiance and I live in Nebraska, he works in Iowa. I have heard that he has to pay taxes in both states. Is this true? If so, will the credit issued for payment to one state equal the additional taxes paid to the other state? Will he wind up paying more combined taxes, than if we just lived in the same state he works in? We are not yet homeowners, but when we do buy, will the deduction for our mortgage interest in Nebraska be credited toward the taxes owed in Iowa?

My wife and I are buying a new house in MD where the state and county transfer taxes will be about $8000. We are going to close in December this year, but will probably take a standard deduction. Can we deduct the property transfer tax even though we are going to take the standard deduction this year? Are transfer taxes deductions or credits?

I have NM state taxes withheld from my pension. This year I also worked in CO and state taxes were withheld there. Will I have to pay state tax on the $ earned in CO in NM and will I have to try to recover that CO $ by filing a tax return in both NM and CO?

If you add up all the taxes you pay now, Fed. Income tax, FICA, Social Security, State tax, City tax, Local tax, Property tax, Sales tax, Gas tax, etc., already most of your income goes toward paying taxes.

What percentage will be too much. Will you work when every penny you earn goes to pay your taxes or will you just say to hell with it all?

I am planning to buy my first home and there are some homes which have property taxes around 3k-4.5K /year

There are some newly constructed homes(2004-2005 model) and they have higher taxes of around 6k - 7K/year.

1) Is it worth buying these newly constructed homes with those higher property taxes ?

2) Any other pros & cons you could suggest.
May be the newly constructed ones have the SSA taxes as well

I’m 17 and I just got a job with McDonald’s, and I’ve heard about tax returns, and I was wondering how I can pay more taxes and let the government keep my tax return. Is this possible? I want to pay more taxes that the government can actually keep. Thanks
I want to give to the government, not a charity. I’m just asking how I can do it. Can you send them a check?

I will receive a check from a natural gas exploration company to extract gas from land that I own the mineral rights to. What percentage will be owed in taxes? Do I need to prepay the tax to the government, or can I wait until I file my 2007 tax return?

Obama’s tax break for 95% of people includes 40+% of people that do not pay taxes. Plus he is not planning to extend the Bush tax cuts, therefor increasing taxes on 49% or tax payers.

I am doing my taxes by myself for the first time, and I heard somewhere that your state income taxes can be a write off on your federal income tax. Is that true?
